I have to admit I was one of the people who groaned when I first heard that Twitter had updated their profiles. Oh, no, something else to keep up with! But after a little exploring and time writing this new post on GigCoin, I see why brands and individuals should care.

The Power of Hashtags
When I set out to write a new article about hashtags I thought about what existing hashtags might demonstrate the power and the viral effects of using them in tweets. Apple’s announcement of the new #iphone5 was exactly what the social media doctor ordered and is a great example of how and why hashtags work.
Check out my new post on GigCoin where I explore the uses and etiquette of using hashtags along with links to some good resources.
Branded Mobile Apps & How Businesses Are Using Them
The mobile app world has been growing by leaps and bounds. And businesses of all sizes and from all industries have been developing apps for smartphone users, expanding their marketing reach with the hope of gaining your attention. How do apps stand-out in a busy marketplace?
The mobile app world has been growing by leaps and bounds. And businesses of all sizes and from all industries have been developing apps for smartphone users, expanding their marketing reach with the hope of gaining your attention. How do apps stand-out in a busy marketplace?
In my new post this week on GigCoin, I explore the issues and had the opportunity to hear first-hand accounts from four businesses.
Posts and Other Summer Musings
The summer has been good so far! I’ve been busy blogging, connecting with new and familiar folks as sources for some of my posts, and when not working enjoying the long hours of sunlight and hot (sometimes muggy) New England days.
Probably most noticeable for me this summer is that I’ve been doing a lot of summer reading–both fiction and non-fiction. And for the most part, enjoying most of the books I’ve read. And even plowing through to the end of the ones that may not exactly hold my interest.
Two new posts which I’ve had the pleasure to write and contribute to this past week was one that was published on Social Media Examiner, 22 Top Blog Tools Loved by the Pros :
and the other, Innovation + Creativity = Great Experiences for Businesses on Instagram, published on GigCoin.
Hope your summer is going well! And that you’re enjoying some good down time, too, hopefully peeling yourself away from being online. A goal which to be perfectly honest, I’m still working on–but I am a little better!
26 Tips, Again
Today, I have a new 26 Tips, A-Z Guide on Social Media Examiner. This one focuses on the management of social media communities. As with all of the posts in my 26 Tips series, I thoroughly enjoyed the research, content curation and challenge of coming up with A-Z topics.
If you’ve found your way here from Social Media Examiner, welcome! And, thanks for stopping by.
Monitoring Social Media
This week I explored the topic of social media monitoring for an article for Social Lens Research’s new blog, The Lens.
I was very happy to discover the work of Zach Hofer-Shall from Forrester Research who observes, “It’s 2012, and we’re still passively–without purpose–collecting social media.”
Zach points out that we’re now at the point where all this listening and data collection needs to bring greater intelligence to organizations if it’s going to amount to anything.

Taking a Look at Landing Pages and Call to Actions
What happens when you land on a web page? An email in your inbox? An update on Facebook? Are you drawn in by what you read or see? Are you inclined to click? Click-through to the next level?
In this week’s post on GigCoin’s blog, my new post “Landing Pages and Call to Actions: A Look at How Retailer, Gap, Inc. Engages Users” deals with these questions while taking a look at how Gap has created landing pages that capture attention and entice people to click.

An Online Community Management Book (Really for Smarties!)
The For Dummies book series has been around awhile now and while some may have considered them to be light-weights in terms of content, they are usually very comprehensive guides on many different topics. This past week I read and wrote about Deb Ng’s book, Online Community Management for Dummies, for GigCoin’s blog.
The book is a compendium of tips for anyone (brand and individual) who is looking for ways to manage their presences on multiple social-networking platforms. It’s an excellent book, well-worth your time to read and implement the suggestions.
The author, Deb Ng, has worked in the field and is currently the Community Manager for BlogWorld whose conference takes place in NYC next week.

Fit to blog, tweet & post!
I have two new articles this week on GigCoin’s blog: one about Facebook tips (via @Mari Smith’s recent and exceptional information-packed webinar) and the other about text4baby, a creative and essential sms text messaging public health campaign for pregnant woman and new mom’s.
One of the things that never ceases to amaze me is the ways in which social media continues to mature. We’re seeing tremendous growth in the ways people are using social media to communicate. It’s truly very exciting!
